Peasant farming in Ireland

Emanuela Russo and Fergal Anderson moved to county Galway, Ireland in September 2011 to start a small vegetable farm. Emanuela, originally from Milan, Italy and Fergal from Galway studied Journalism and Communication and Public Advocacy and Activism respectively and could not imagine to become farmers when they graduated from high school. For the last three years Emanuela and Fergal have been politically active in Brussels working among others for Via Campesina, the international organization for peasant farmers. After some time, it became increasingly clear to them that apart from being politically engaged they actually wanted to get their hands dirty and to move to the countryside. Be inspired!

La italiana Emanuela Russo  y el irlandés Fergal Anderson han colaborado durante muchos años en organizaciones de Europa y de otros continentes. Por su compromiso político, han trabajado, entre otras, para la organización campesina internacional “La Via Campesina”. Además de su activismo dando charlas o escribiendo, quisieron pasar a la acción también practicando lo que defendían. Y en septiembre de 2011, Emanuela y Fergal ser mudaron al campo y empezaron con su propia parcela.

Emanuela Russo, originaire d’Italie, et Fergal Anderson, d’Irlande, ont travaillé plusieurs années pour des organismes en Europe et ailleurs. Politiquement engagés, ils ont notamment travaillé pour la Via Campesina, le mouvement paysan international. Mais plutôt que de se limiter à faire campagne, parler et écrire, ils voulaient mettre en pratique ce qu’ils défendaient. En septembre 2011, Emanuela et Fergal se sont installés à la campagne et ont mis en route leur propre ferme !
